Carlene M. Willer was born in Lawton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Ethel (Wilson) Willer, on May 20, 1935. She grew up on the family farm near Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School. During her youth, she was active with the Woodbury County girls 4-H and served as 4-H president. She attended Wayne State College, where she found the love of her life, Robert Davis.

They married on Aug. 21, 1955. To this union four children were born, Carla, Christi, Jeff and Linda. She worked in Danbury, Iowa, from 1955 to 1960. The family moved to Sioux City in 1960, and she started working for the Sioux City Public Schools at Longfellow Elementary in the library.

Carlene was a lifelong member of Morningside Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, sang in the choir, worked in the church library, and served as a deaconess. She was a member of the church quilting group, with a lovely group of lady friends that saw her through her long illness. Carlene was involved with the AARP Driver's Safety Program, she was a co-instructor with her husband, Bob, for the 55 Alive Program, assisted with the Girl Scouts and 4-H. She was a past member of the Eastern Star in Danbury.

Survivors include her four children, Carla (Brad) Maslonka, Christi Grabowski, Jeff (Ronda) Davis and Linda Amman; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Carlene was preceded in death by her soulmate of 61 years, Bob; her sister, Ruth Simonin; and her two brothers, Jim Willer and George Willer.

We are thankful that our mom was able to find her smile and twinkle in her eyes again. She seemed to be content and at peace with her surroundings both through Home Instead Senior Care and at Sunrise Health Care. The dedicated, hands-on staff of both groups provided mom with great care and continued dignity. For this, we express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude.

Memorials may be directed to Faith United Presbyterian Church, Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Siouxland.
