Loreen was born June 19, 1946, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., to John H. and Helen D. (Freese) Johnson. The family moved to Eau Claire, Wis., before settling in Sioux City, where she graduated from Central High School in 1964. She attended Wayne State College for a year.

On Nov. 18, 1967, she married the love of her life, Micheal L. Stapleton, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, the same church where she was baptized and confirmed at.

Loreen worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone. She then worked for the Sioux City Community School District as a school secretary at Washington Elementary and as a library aide at East Middle School. Loreen and Mike owned the Northside Dairy Queen for 25 years.

Loreen enjoyed going for walks, dancing, going to movies, shopping with her daughters and going to car shows with her husband. She loved to attend her grandkids’ activities. They also made many memories at their summer home in Okoboji, and then their winter home in Arizona. She enjoyed spending time with her family the most.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 50 years, Mike; twin daughters, Lori (Jon) Sulzbach and Lisa (Shannon) Sargent, all of Sioux City; son, Mike (Kathryn) Stapleton of North Liberty, Iowa; five grandchildren, Christopher and Carter Sulzbach, Shay Sargent, and Abby and Jake Stapleton; brother, John R. Johnson of Dakota City; mother-in-law, Margaret Krogman of Dakota City; sisters-in-law, Judy Bringle of Colorado, and Kim (Dan) Wendel of Schaller, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Larry Stapleton of Sioux City.

Loreen was a beautiful, gentle person that cared about everybody and everyone who knew her loved her.

Donations may be directed to the family for a memorial in her name to be determined.
