Irene Kenyon Scoblic, 96, a long-time resident of Sioux City, passed away suddenly on Nov. 29, 2016, in Georgetown Texas, where she had lived with her daughter, Pat, and son-in-law, Doug for the past three years. She had a wonderful last month with her youngest son, Mike, and his wife, Dala, visiting for the week of Thanksgiving and she greatly enjoyed watching Iowa beat Michigan.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City. Inurnment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Irene was born on Aug. 18, 1920, to H. Charles Kenyon and Loretta Buck Kenyon in Breslau, Neb. She grew up in Springfield, S.D., and attended Southern State Teacher’s College there.

In May of 1942, she married Robert F. Scoblic in Montgomery, Ala. After the war, she and Bob lived in Sioux Falls, S.D., until 1955, when they moved to Sioux City.

She had been a member of Blessed Sacrament church since 1955, a member of the choir and served the parish as an organist for 39 years before retiring from that post at the age of 93. Even though she had moved to Texas, in her heart, she never really left Blessed Sacrament and her friends in Sioux City.

Anyone who knew Irene knew she had a green thumb. Her yard was a showcase every year and she maintained a beautiful garden until she left Sioux City at the age of 94.

She is survived by daughter, Judith Lynn Nielsen (George) of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., daughter, Patricia Kay Dittberner (Douglas) of Georgetown, Texas, son, Robert Kenyon Scoblic (Robin) of Iowa City, Iowa, and son, Michael James Scoblic (Dala) of Waukee, Iowa; along with seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Lynn Scoblic; daughter, Lori Scoblic Perry; and husband, Robert F. Scoblic.
