Thelma B. Taute, 88, formerly of Sioux City, died on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Douglas County Rehab Center in Omaha.

Thelma was born on May 1, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Hazel and William H. Johnson. She grew up in Sioux City, and graduated from Central High School.

On Nov. 4, 1950, Thelma married Donald Taute. They had three children, Don, Donna and Jon. In 1964, they moved to Omaha, where they raised their family.

Thelma loved her husband and family. She delighted in times spent with her six grandchildren, Kelsey, Elisa, Doree, Michael, Daniel and Elise, and one great-grandchild, Maya. She was a passionate gardener and would spend countless hours in her yard planting and tending her flowers. She enjoyed outings with her friends, shopping and eating lunch, all the while sharing her witty sense of humor. She also enjoyed her walks with her dog and sitting on her front porch visiting with neighbors.

Survivors include her son, Don Taute and wife, Nancy of Lincoln, Neb.; daughter, Donna L Gardner and husband, Dwayne of Sioux City; son, Jon Taute of College Station, Texas; her six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Donald; sisters, Gladys and Margarett; and brother, Duane “Dick” Johnson.
