Bob M. Huisenga, 75, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at his residence comforted by family. Bob fought cancer for 11 years, being an inspiration to many for his courage and determination.

Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Timothy D. Bonney officiating. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in Ferguson Cemetery, Lake View, Iowa, with graveside prayers offered by the family. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service followed by a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Bob was born in March 1942, in Carroll, Iowa, to Marvin and Maxine (Martz) Huisenga. He graduated from Lake View High School in 1959 and Morningside College in Sioux City in 1963 as a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity.

Bob married Janice Long on April 21, 1963, in Lake View. To this couple two children were born, a daughter, Cheri, and a son, Bruce. Bob was the assistant manager of Kresge's in Rapid City, S.D. Moving back to Sioux City in 1964, he started his career at Williges, Inc. as the credit manager and became the secretary-treasurer in 1970. Bob purchased the women's clothing store from the Wilderson family in 1980, and operated it with his wife until 1999. Bob then was a realtor until his retirement in 2008.

Along with his membership to Grace United Methodist Church, where he served on several boards and committees, Bob was a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge, Abu Bekr Shrine, York Rites, and the White Horse Mounted Patrol as a social member. He was also on the Woodbury County Condemnation Board. Bob's past memberships in the Siouxland area include Cosmopolitan Club, Sertoma, past treasurer and board member, Boy Scouts den leader, Downtown Merchants Association, past president, Sioux City Chamber of Commerce, Consumer Credit of Siouxland, past president, Sioux City Building Owners & Managers, past president, Sioux City Jaycees, vice president and board member, Young Republicans, Loan Executive for United Way, Main Street Program, co-chair, Sioux City Noon Rotary Club, Sioux City Business Leaders, past president, WITCC Retail Board member, Morningside College Alumni Board member, and the Royal Order of Jesters.

Bob loved to travel, play golf, play cards, and read. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing pool, chess, and fishing. He was always looking forward to family vacations.

Bob is survived by his wife, Janice of Sioux City; daughter, Cheri Huisenga of Lincoln, Neb., and her children, Megan and Jesse Zech, Michael and Samantha Bawdon, Justine Cork, and Dylan Cork; son, Bruce Huisenga and his wife, Stacy of Fargo, N.D., and their children, Ashley Huisenga, Ericka Huisenga, and Nicole Huisenga; 10 great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Cheyanne, Tressa, Jacob, Ellie, Cameron, Shaun, Madison, Sophia, and Adilynn; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Janet Dowling, Vicki and Joe Nepl, Steve and Debra Long, and Kara and Jedd Sherman.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Maxine Huisenga; in-laws, Kenneth and Beryl Long; brother-in-law, Andrew Long; and sister-in-law, Rebecca Presley.

Memorials may be offered in his name to the Shrine Transportation Fund, Grace United Methodist Church, or June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
