Gerald J. Fish, 79, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Sunday at Congregation Beth Shalom, with A. Frank Baron officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be offered online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Gerald was born on Feb. 24, 1938, in Sioux City, to Louis G. and Sylvia (Madorsky) Fish. Gerald grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. He continued his education at the University of Iowa, where he obtained a degree in accounting.

On Feb. 14, 1964, he married Sharon K. Taxer in Sioux City. Together they raised two sons. Gerald worked for the family business, Ben Fish Tire, then worked as a traveling auditor for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 10 years. He returned to Ben Fish Tire and retired from there in 2002.

He was an active member of Congregation Beth Shalom, where he taught Hebrew classes part-time. Gerald enjoyed reading non-fiction books. Through KWIT radio, he read the newspaper to the blind. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He also enjoyed going to movies and working on crossword puzzles.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; sons, Bradly and Kevin Fish of Sioux City; brother, David (Susan) Fish of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Sarilye Fish Atlas of Sioux City; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ron Fish.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in his name to Congregation Beth Shalom.
