Gerald Francis Donahue was born on Feb. 26, 1950, the son of Francis J. and Mary Ann (Thompson) Donahue, in Dell Rapids, S.D., the oldest of 15 children. He grew up on a farm near Baltic, S.D., and attended school at St. Mary's High School, and the University of South Dakota.

Jerry married Joan Amos on Dec. 31, 1994 and resided together in Sioux City. Jerry taught school, most recently at Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa, where he was the technology director, yearbook director, and librarian until his retirement in 2013.

Jerry enjoyed traveling, boating, and entertaining friends with his wife, Joan. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them many hobbies such as golfing, boating, fishing, and could often be found just tinkering in the garage. Jerry always had a passion for reading, gardening, woodworking, and photography. Jerry was someone the whole family looked up to and will be greatly missed.

Jerry is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Burns of Dell Rapids; his wife, Joan of Sioux City; his children, Julie (John Koupal), Steve (Merredith), James, Josh Amos (Ember), Jennifer (Brian Copeland), and Jessica (Jeff Wilen); five brothers; six sisters; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters; and a brother.
