Marlene Marie Nichols, 67, of West Des Moines, formerly of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 14, 2017.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.

Marlene was born in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, on June 11, 1950, the daughter of Robert and Lauris Nichols. She graduated in 1968 from East High School in Sioux City and moved to the Des Moines area in the late 1980s. She worked at several insurance companies and most recently at Hy-Vee. She enjoyed taking her son, Luke, to Special Olympics, and camping and spending time with her granddaughters, Trinity and Ellie.

Marlene is survived by her two sons, Joshua (Jaimie) Heeren of Madrid, and Luke Heeren of Newton, Iowa; her mother, Lauris Dudgeon of Akron, Iowa; grandchildren, Trinity and Ellie Heeren; sister, Coletta (James) Manna of Sioux City; niece, Devon (Andy) Allaway; nephew, Bret (Michelle) Banks and their families; and two cousins, Sue Christopherson and Jaci Collins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert; and stepfather, Dudley Dudgeon.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Special Olympics of Iowa.
