Jefferson, S.D.—Gladys May Ellenson, 93, of Jefferson died Thursday March 26, 1998 in Elk Point, S.D.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Riverside Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating. Burial will be I Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Berkemier Funeral Home, resuming at 5 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Ellenson was born April 19, 1904 in Sergeant Bluff the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Riedneour) Flanders. She was raised in Grand Center, Iowa and graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School. She graduated from Morningside College in 1926. She married Edward Ellenson in 1934 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She taught school in North Dakota and Nebraska until 1956. She later was superintendent of a women’s reformatory in York, Nebraska for 20 years where she received two humanitarian awards from the state of Nebraska. She retired in 1976 and the couple later moved to Jefferson. He died June 6, 1981.

She was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church and was active in the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Gwen and Bob McKelvey of Jefferson; a sister Frances Niven of Jefferson; six grandchildren, Robert, Dan, Bill and Ron McKelvey, Donna Jordan and Gladys Sayler; 15 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dennis McKelvey, Bill McKelvey, Jr., Danny McKelvey, Jr., Michael McKelvey, Bob Sayler, Roger Sayler, Jr. and Jim Swanson, Jr.
