Wilma A. “Billie” Ward, 90, of Sioux City died Thursday, March 26, 1998 at the Countryside Retirement Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Church of the Nativity, with Monsignor Michael D. Sernett officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ward was born December 22, 1907 in Logan, Iowa, the daughter of J. Charles and Ellen (Ashton) Hammitt. She was raised in Logan.

She married William A. “Al” Ward on November 4, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple lived in Omaha, where she was employed with Wellman Commission Company at the livestock Exchange. They moved to Sioux City in 1945. He died March 13, 1979 in Sioux City.

She was a member of The Church of the Nativity and the Confraternity.

Survivors include two sons, James P. and William T. “Tom” and his wife Blanche, all of Sioux City; a sister, Eleanor Homer of Woodbine, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Joan Furay of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Max Hammitt, and a sister, Mildred Wohlers.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
