Nicholas David "Nick" Staber, 38, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sunnybrook Community Church, with the Rev. B.J. Van Kalsbeek officiating. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at the church. The family requests that Iowa Hawkeye or Drake University attire be worn for the visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be offered online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Nick was born on Sept. 12, 1978, in Sioux City, the son of David C. and Mary Clare (Happe) Staber. He graduated from North High School in 1997 and then from Drake University with a degree in sociology, where he also played offensive guard for the Drake Bulldogs.

Before joining the family business, Staber Meats, he was employed by Foulk Bros. Plumbing, Boys and Girls Home and Family Services, and Opportunities Unlimited.

On June 29, 2002, he married Sara L. Foulk, his high school sweetheart, in Sioux City. To that union two children were born, Grace Carolyn and Benjamin Nicholas.

Nick was an active member of Sunnybrook Community Church, where he belonged to Men of Valor and the Affinity Life Group. He also taught Base Camp for children.

He enjoyed coaching his son's youth baseball and soccer teams, along with watching his daughter grow into a graceful dancer. Nick loved Hawkeye tailgating and watching football games, whether on TV or at Kinnick Stadium. He had a passion for reading and was always in the midst of three plus books, with a list of books that would soon follow. He enjoyed writing and had recently submitted a children's book.

Survivors include his wife, Sara; their two children, Grace "Kitty" and Benjamin "Benny Bug" both at home; parents, Dave and Mary Clare Staber of Bonita Springs, Fla. and formerly of Sioux City; three brothers, Patrick (Janice) Staber of North Liberty, Iowa, Tom (Kelley) Staber of Omaha, and Michael (fiancee, Silvia) Staber of Omaha; grandparents, Howard and Delores Staber and Don Happe, all of Sioux City; parents-in-law, Jon and Barb Foulk of Sioux City; brother-in-law, Jay (Rhiannon) Foulk of Grimes, Iowa; six nieces and nephews; and close friends, Zach and Michaele Lewis of Lawton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Alyce Happe.

A memorial fund will be established for Nick's children, Grace and Ben.
