Leo "Louie" Bitsos, 91, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church. The Rev. Lucas Rice will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery, Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., all at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Leo was born March 13, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Paul and Mabel (Abdouch) Bitsos. Leo grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. After the war, Leo returned to Sioux City. He owned and operated restaurants in Yankton, S.D. and Sioux City, the last being the Fourth St. Cafe.

On Feb. 10, 1990, Leo married Elizabeth Arendt in Sioux City.

Leo was a member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church and a life member of the V.F.W. Post 8762. In his younger years, Leo enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed watching Minions and western movies as well as making jewelry.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Sioux City; his son, Paul Bitsos and his wife, Dora of Omaha; his daughter, Tina Mentis and her husband, Peter of Fairfax, Va.; a sister, Marie Woods of Donna, Texas; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers and sisters, John Bitsos, Mary Stevens, Phil Stevens, Tony Bitsos and Maggie Staber.
