Harold Abbott, 95, of Sloan, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Community Church of Christ in Sloan, Iowa with Dr. Emery Killian, officiating. Private family burial will follow in the Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the Smith-Rhodes American Legion Post #295 of Sloan, Iowa.

Visitation will be 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Harold was born July 4, 1920 in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa the son of James W. and Nellie M. (Rogers) Abbott. He was raised in the Sloan area and graduated from Sloan High School in 1938. He then attended Nettelton Business Training in Sioux City, Iowa where he received an Associate Degree in Business. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II from 1942 until the fall of 1945, discharged with the rank of First Sergeant.

Harold and Mary L. Walker were united in marriage on September 16, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in Miami, Florida until his discharge from the Army in 1945. Three children were born to this union, David, LeAnn, and Curtis. Mary preceded him in death on May 15, 2015.

Harold owned and operated Abbott Tax Service in Sloan, Iowa since 1948.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.

He was a member of the Community Church of Christ in Sloan, Iowa. He belonged to the Attica Lodge AF & AM #502 of Sloan and was a 72 year member of the American Legion Post #295 of Sloan, Iowa where he previously served as their commander. He also served as mayor of Sloan for several years.

Survivors include his children, David (Joann) Abbott of Sergeant Bluff, IA, LeAnn (Mike) Hansen of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Curtis (Julie) Abbott of Lonsdale, MN; eight grandchildren, Lori Gill, Cheri (Scott) Fegenbush, Brooks (Tammy) Steinhoff, Blake (Gina) Steinhoff, Becky Polley, Joshua Abbott, Caitlyn Abbott, and Cassidy Abbott; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; a granddaughter, Jennifer Abbott; two sisters, Alta Hood and Dorothy Abbott; four brothers, Clarence, Ward Allen, James, and his twin brother, Farrell.
