Donald James Pyle, 70, Sioux City, died Wednesday, October 30, 1996, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. Marvin Boes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 1973. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at Larkins Northside Funeral Home, 2320 Outer Drive N.

Mr. Pyle was born January 11, 1926 in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of James and Mildred (Stillian) Pyle. He attended Sioux City schools and the Dunwoody Institute of Baking in Minneapolis.

He married Irene L. Sullivan September 25, 1948, in South Sioux City. A lifelong Sioux City resident, he worked as a baker for the Iowa Bakery. He was a utility worker for IPS Gas and Electric Co. for 28 years, retiring in 1983.

Mr. Pyle was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and VFW Post 1973. He served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and his wife, Sheryl of Jefferson, S.D. and Dennis of Sioux City; four daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Jim Salmen of Sioux City, Donna and Steve Uhl of Sioux City, Teresa and Rick Butrous of Kansas City, Mo., and Lisa and John Tritz of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Arnold Pyle of Chicago, Ill., and a sister, Dorothy Silzer of South Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Gary Pyle; a granddaughter, Tamara Butrous and a sister, Mavis Pyle.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Salmen, Kirk Pyle, Kelly Curran, Lynn Mollet, Kelly Florke and Jim Roethler.
