SIOUX CITY | Alan L. Smith, 66, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at his home.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Concord, Neb., with the Rev. William Bertrand will be officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be noon until service time Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, Neb.

Alan was born on Oct. 26, 1950, in Wayne, Neb., to Desmond and Martha (Koch) Smith. He graduated from Allen (Neb.) High School in 1969. In 1970, Alan was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

Alan married Sharleen Schuppan on July 6, 1973 in Elk Point, S.D.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed going to coffee and gardening his veggies and fruits. Most of all, Alan loved his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Alan is survived by his wife, Sharleen Smith of Sioux City; son, Terry (Stephanie) Smith of Sioux City; brothers, Desmond Smith Jr. of Scribner, Neb.,, Terry (Gayle) Smith of Colchester, Vt., Dean (Marlene) Smith of Allen, Neb., Bob Smith of Beatrice, Neb., Doug (Susan) Smith of Martinsburg, Neb., Lin (Mary Lou) Smith of Ponca, Neb., Randy (Tonia) Smith of Delta Junction, Ark., and Dennis (Theresa) Smith of Yankton, S.D.; sisters, Chris (Bill) Micek of Columbus, Neb., June (Bob) Grosvenor of Newcastle, Neb., and Shellee (Jeff) Heinemeyer of Yankton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cheryl; brother, Richard; and sister, Marsha.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
