SIOUX CITY | Leo L. Harris, 87, of Sioux City, died on March 19, 2017, at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City.

Per his wishes, the body was cremated. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith United Presbyterian Church, 4327 Morningside Avenue, officiated by Rev. David Koehler. Private family graveside service will be held prior to the service Wednesday. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Leo was born in Hubbard, Neb., on Dec. 30, 1929. His parents were Herbert and Faye Harris. He attended school in Hubbard until the family moved to Sioux City. He graduated from Central High School in 1948. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years, including a tour of duty in Okinawa during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he was employed by Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas. He returned to Sioux City in 1954 and enrolled in Morningside College.

He married Frances Voss on Aug. 22, 1956. This union endured more than 60 years and was blessed with two daughters. After graduation in 1957, he was employed at Morningside as their chief accountant. In 1960, the family moved to Albion, Mich., where Leo served as the chief accountant for Albion College. In 1962, he joined the faculty at Morningside College teaching numerous accounting classes and hundreds of business students. Leo earned an MBA from the University of South Dakota in 1965 and passed the certified public accounting exam in 1967. He retired from teaching in 1991 as an associate professor of accounting, at which time he was presented with the Order of Morningside.

Leo was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, serving as treasurer for more than 30 years. He was a former member of Morningside Lodge 615 and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity as well as Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and many winters spent in Weslaco, Texas, with his wife, Frances.

Leo is survived by his wife, Frances; daughters, Lori (Gary) Benton of Stilwell, Kan., and Mary Kay Duquette of Edina, Minn.; grandchildren, Katie Linder of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Emily Duquette and Andrew Duquette of Edina; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deloris (Thomas) Haddad; brother, Kenneth (Marilyn) Harris; and grandchildren, Karen Linder, Samuel Duquette and Caroline Duquette.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Bickford Memory Care Cottage for several years of exceptional loving care they gave to Leo and his family. They are also grateful to the Care Initiatives Hospice for their comfort and support in Leo's final days.
