SERGEANT BLUFF | Elaine F. Deirup, 87, of Sergeant Bluff, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Sunrise Health Center in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at the church. There will be an Eastern Star Service, Daughters of the Nile and a prayer service starting at 7 p.m. today. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.

Elaine was born on Jan. 15, 1930, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Ruth (Carlson) Larsen. She graduated from Akron High School. She then attended Morningside College and the Edwards Business Institute.

On Feb. 27, 1955, Elaine was united in marriage to John E. Deirup in Akron. Elaine was employed in the Records Department at the Sioux City Police Department, working there 13 years and retiring in 1994.

Elaine was a 40-year member of the Morningside Rose Croix Chapter 502, Eastern Star and a 27-year member of the Hathor Temple No. 38 of the Daughters of the Nile. She was also an active member of Community United Methodist Church and its Women's Circle and various other committees. Elaine was a longtime member of the Sergeant Bluff American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society.

Elaine is survived by her son, Craig Deirup and his significant other, Cheryl Harrington of Sioux City; her daughter, Cindy and her husband, Steve Jennings of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Matt Nielsen and his wife, Erin, Tiffany Nielsen and her significant other, Jason Merritt, and Stephany and her husband, Jeff Ireland; her great-grandchildren, Hunter John Deirup Nielsen, twins, Samantha and Elizabeth Ireland, all of Des Moines; several step-grandchildren and great and great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Elsie Wetzeler of Spirit Lake, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John in 2012; one sister, June Belshe; and one brother, Cyril Larsen.
