SIOUX CITY | Lee D. Lambert, 88, Sioux City, died on March 6, 2017, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.

Services will be 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3204 South Lakeport, in Sioux City, with the Revs. Russell Senstad and David Zirpel officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hinton, Iowa, with military rites. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Avenue, in Sioux City. Lee D. Lambert was born to Delphis and Florence (Lucey) Lambert on Jan. 23, 1929, on their farm near Merrill, Iowa. He graduated from high school in May 1946 in Le Mars, Iowa.

Lee spent six years in the U.S. Navy as an aviation engineer first class, beginning in 1946. He served in San Diego, Calif., and Norfolk, Va., as well as on the USS Midway. He was honorably discharged from Oceana, Va., in 1954.

After discharge, Lee went to college and graduated from Iowa State College in 1959 with a degree in electrical engineering. He began his career with Iowa Public Service Company in Le Mars and later transferred to their Sioux City office, retiring in 1996.

While growing up, Lee worked many odd jobs including on the farm of the Schoenrock family, where he met and later married Alice Schoenrock on Aug. 11, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their children are Janet Down (Brian), Steven Lambert (Pat), Jeffrey Lambert (Elizabeth) and Susan Freeze (John). Grandchildren are Erika Down (Cody), Ryan Down (Megan), Kevin Down (Laila), Tyler Down (Leah), Lindsey Lambert, Lily Gengenbach, Del Lambert, Jonathon Lambert, Lucas Freeze, Jessica Freeze, Jacob Freeze and Hannah Freeze. Great-grandchildren include Kate and Kenna Lippencott, Harris and Kinley Down and Audrie Down. Lee also had a sister, Margorie Doornik (Wallace), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, whose lives he impacted with his values and faith.

Lee was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he served as trustee and chairman of the congregation and on many committees and projects throughout the years. His living example of his faith was an inspiration and testament to many. He enjoyed traveling to several different continents and all 50 states, including many stops to visit family and friends far and wide. Many have cherished his woodworking projects and have enjoyed his homegrown popcorn from the garden. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing, and any activities of his grandchildren.
