SIOUX CITY | Carl H. Schuttpelz, 83, of Sioux City, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at a local nursing facility.

Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Jason Jackson officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to the service Monday.

Carl was born on Feb. 25, 1933, in Homer, Neb., to Carl H. and Marie (Beltz) Schuttpelz. He attended Perry County School No. 4. Carl married Barbara Jean Ferguson on Sept. 21, 1957, in Sioux City, and the couple later divorced.

Carl was a laborer at an agricultural processing facility in Siouxland, and retired in the late 1980s. On July 31, 1987, Carl married Lillian Marie Brown in Elk Point, S.D.

His joys in life included fishing, walking, being outdoors and spending time with family.

Carl’s survivors include son, Michael Schuttpelz of Arizona, son, Martin (Rena Rice) Schuttpelz of South Sioux City, son, Merlin Schuttpelz of Sioux City, daughter, Marlene (Scott) Smith of Sioux City, son, Matthew (Laura) Schuttpelz of Snyder, Neb., stepson, Donald Brown of Sioux City, stepdaughter, Julie (Bob) Coney of Sioux City, stepdaughter, Wendy (Rick) Ohl of Sioux City, stepdaughter, Georgia (Carl Franklin) Brown of Mason, Ohio, and stepson, Joshua Brown of Sioux City; numerous grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-stepgrandchildren; brother, Walter (Sylvia) Schuttpelz of Hinton, Iowa; sister, Mary Ellen (Dennis) Langly of Sioux City, and sister, Loretta (Ricky) Blake.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marvin Schuttpelz in 1995; and grandson, Anthony Pantona in 2007.
