SIOUX CITY | Ray Edwin Baker, 91, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Northern Hills Assisted Living in Sioux City.

According to Ray's wishes, private family services will be held. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park in Storm Lake, Iowa. Arrangements are with Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences maybe given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ray Edwin was born Jan. 16, 1925, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, son of Harold Francis and Vilsie (Whitford) Baker. He grew up in Eagle Grove, and graduated in 1943 from Eagle Grove High School. In July 1943, Ray was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the European Theatre with an anti-aircraft artillery battalion. In October 1945, he received his honorable discharge and returned to Iowa.

On Nov. 5, 1949, Ray married Myrna Josephine Johnson in Storm Lake. They had three daughters. They made their home in Storm Lake, Sergeant Bluff, Sioux City and Kingsley, Iowa.

Ray was employed by Mid-American Energy for 36 years, retiring in 1985 as an electronic foreman.

Survivors include three daughters, Babette "Babs" (Bob) Hickson of Sioux City, Tylene (Bill) Woods of Hinton, Iowa, and Wendy Dolecki of Ashland, Va.; four grandsons, Damon (Stephanie) Cleveland, Brian (Stephanie) Hickson, Cory (Jamie) Cleveland and Derek Woods; four granddaughters, Stephanie (Mark) Smith, Laura (Paul) Tarnowski, Danielle Dolecki and Brianna Dolecki; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrna Baker; sister, Marlene; and a great-grandson, Zeb Hickson.

Memorials may be directed to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center, or Hospice of Siouxland.
