SIOUX CITY | Donald Bradford Krone, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Murray and Chaplain Jon Movavec will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Don was born on July 3, 1928, in Sioux City, the son of Axel and Vera (Svenson) Krone. He grew up in Sioux City, attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1946. Don graduated from Morningside College in 1952, where he was a member of the Morningside College golf team which was coached by the legendary George Allen.

On Sept. 14, 1952, Don married Joyce Cunningham at First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City.

Don began working for and later became manager of AAA Motor Club in Sioux City, where he was employed for almost 40 years. After retirement, Don and Joyce moved to Peoria, Ariz., and resided there from 1990 until moving back to Sioux City in September 2016. During this period, they spent most of their summers back in Sioux City where Don enjoyed being a ranger at Dakota Dunes Country Club and volunteering at the Sergeant Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center.

Don was an avid golfer and a member at Dakota Dunes Country Club and Westbrook Village's two golf courses in Peoria. One of his best golf memories was working as Sam Snead's caddie in the 1950 Sioux City Open. Don was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City and was an associate member of the Sun City Congregational Church in Peoria. He served as an elder and deacon for First Presbyterian Church. He was a commodore for River-Cade, president of the Sertoma Club, president of the M Club at Morningside College, president of the Sioux City Boat Club, president of Windsor Park Association in Peoria and was an original member of the Posse for Westbrook Village in Peoria. Don served on the first Highway 20 Expansion Board when it was formed in the 1960s, was a member of the original zoo board, served as a member of the Judicial Magistrate Appointing Commission for Woodbury County and worked with AAA to sponsor the local School Boy Patrol program.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Sioux City; three children, Sandra Krone of Peoria, Phil Krone (Martha) of Sioux City, and Kevin Krone (Ann) of Omaha; five grandchildren, Erick Krone, Jackie Krone, Jonathan Krone, Nicholas Krone and Abby Krone; nieces, Connie Barkley, and Anita Botthof; and nephew, Wally Krone.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Wally Krone, Norman Krone, and Jack Krone; and sister, Violet Bone.

His grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be directed to the Sergeant Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center or First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City.
