SIOUX CITY | Helen "Roz" Evans, 102, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at a local care facility.

Memorial service will be 3:15 p.m. today at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, 1701 W. 25th St. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Helen was born on March 19, 1914, in Hillsboro, N.H., the daughter of Daniel and Abbie (Carter) Cole. In 1931, she graduated from Hillsboro High School and in 1936, from Simmons College in Boston, Mass. with a bachelor's degree in library science. In 1976, she retired to Hillsboro, to the house that her parents had left to her.

She married Albert Evans on Dec. 28, 1988, a high school classmate, in Sioux City before a judge. They traveled extensively, including going to Ireland about nine times. They saw nine of the 10 most beautiful national parks, particularly enjoying Sequoia National Park in California. Al passed away in on Feb. 14, 2006.

In 2007, Helen became a resident of Holy Spirit Retirement Home, where she was resident council president. She celebrated her 100th birthday on March 27, 2014.

She is survived by her stepson, Alan (Karen) Evans of Sioux City; and stepdaughter, Kathy (Kevin) Strohm of Sioux City

Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Warren Cole; his wife, Madeline; one sister, Dorothy Radford and her husband Harrison.
