SIOUX CITY | Dean V. DeWall, 79, of Sioux City, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at his residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites provided by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Dean Vernon DeWall was born on July 25, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Carl and Della (Volga) DeWall. In 1957, he graduated from East High School. Dean left Sioux City at that time, then resided and worked in Omaha.

Dean enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1960 and served 24 years, retiring in 1984 with the rank of senior chief petty officer. In 1976, he underwent Petty Officer Leadership School and passed the college level examining program. He was a Vietnam War veteran. After retiring from the service, he worked in California until 2003 when he returned to Sioux City.

Dean was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

He is survived by his brother, Gary McCall of Placerville, Calif.; and two sisters, Barbara Pfifer of Ontario Calif., and Judith Otte of Riverside, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dean's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
