SIOUX CITY | Andrew Joseph Langin, 40, of Sioux City, passed away in the evening of Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at his home in the loving arms of his family and friends.

Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Monday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Andrew was born Feb. 10, 1976, at Fort Bragg Army Hospital in Fayetteville, N.C., to Michael (deceased) and Carol Langin. After his birth, they moved with the Army to Colorado and left the Army in 1981, when Andrew was five, to move to Sioux City to make it their home. Andrew attended Leeds Elementary, Herbert Hoover Middle School and graduated from North High in 1994. He went on to get his degree in auto body repair and painting at Western Iowa Tech.

After an apprenticeship at Sioux Auto Body, he went to work for Steffen, Inc., for 20 years. It was during that time, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and battled with brain tumors while it quickly spread throughout his body. Andrew and his family believed his cancer had come from his exposure to the paint chemicals used in restoring trucks and automobiles on his jobs.

Andrew used his creative talent to help others in painting, repairing and restoring cars, trailers and bikes in his spare time in the community. His many hobbies included throwing pottery and glass blowing and contributing his time and talent to welding, building and painting at the Sioux City Skate Park, as he was an enthusiastic skate boarder.

While attending North High, Andrew played drums in marching band and went on to be a drummer in more than one band in Sioux City. Besides his love for all types of music, he taught himself the acoustic guitar and could be found often playing it after a hard day of work. His other hobbies consisted of vegetable and flower gardening and lovingly raising his daughter, Sophie, along with spending time with his many friends and family.

Andrew is survived by his daughter, Sophie Langin; his mother, Carol Langin and her significant other, Dennis Mahr; his sister, Rachael Langin and her husband, Levi Thayer, and their two children, Amelia and Arlo Thayer; his sister, Julia Langin and her husband, Chris Burns, and their children, Cecilia and Oskar Burns. He is also survived by his grandmother, Sylvia Sorlein and her husband, Thorlief Sorlein; nine aunts; seven uncles; along with many cousins.
