DANBURY, Iowa -- Mary B. Dirksen, 81, of Danbury died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a St. Mary's Rosary Society rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, and Danbury.

Mary Bertha Dirksen was born May 9, 1924, in Garfield Township, Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Fleisihman) Treiber. She had a brother, Leo, and a sister, Marie.

On June 25, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leo Dirksen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. To this union four children were born, Lois, Janice, Raymond and Fred. The couple farmed for one year in Mapleton, Iowa. In 1947, they moved to Danbury and farmed there until 1981, at which time they moved into Danbury. Leo died Aug. 28, 1997.

She truly enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, sewing, quilting and crocheting. She also enjoyed their neighborhood card parties, square dancing, ballroom dancing and Senior Citizen dances. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Rosary Society, where she held various offices. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Carlson-Frum Unit 336 in Danbury, the Friendly Neighbors Sewing Club, Maple Height Auxiliary, the Danbury Dancers, the Maple Valley Square Dancers and Danbury Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Miller of Charter Oak, Iowa, and Janice and her husband, Leon Peterson of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Raymond and Connie Dirksen of Danbury and Fred and Fanchon Dirksen of Danbury; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several other relatives, good friends and neighbors.

Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo Treiber; an infant sister, Marie Treiber; and a son-in-law, Bill Miller.
