Albert A. Evans, 91, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.

Private family services will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Don Wood of First United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Evans was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Cambridge, Mass., the son of John S. and Caroline Evans. He grew up in New Hampshire. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He then worked for Lever Brothers before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was discharged as a staff sergeant. He sailed on the original Queen Mary when he returned to the United States from Europe.

He married Margaret McCardle on Dec. 14, 1946. He married Helen Cole on Dec. 28, 1988, in Sioux City.

He worked for Sears from 1950 to 1965. He was one of the first instructors for Manpower Development Training, which later became Western Iowa Tech Community College. He taught appliance repair and refrigeration until his retirement in 1975.

He loved to travel and enjoyed going to the Black Hills and Ireland. He loved animals and liked to feed the squirrels, birds and cats.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Evans of Sioux City; five children and their spouses, Alan and Karen Evans of Sioux City, Diane and Malcolm Gibson of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Linda and Duane Davis of Dakota Dunes, Richard and Janet Evans of Des Moines and Kathy and Kevin Strom of Sioux City; a brother, John Evans of New Hampshire; a sister, Florence Ossinger of Florida; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
