Eva R. Hutchins, 86, formerly of Sun City Center, Florida, died Sunday, March 8, 1998 at Walker Colonial Manor in South Sioux City.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Edward Girres, pastor of Cathedral of the Epiphany officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery at Burlington, N.J. There will be a rosary at the residence of her daughter, Virginia Tornell, in Sioux City. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Hutchins was born November 5, 1911, in Timisoara, Romania. She came to the United States at 11 years of age.

She married George Barnes Hutchins on April 25, 1937, in New Brunswick, N.J. The couple made their home in Metuchen, N.J.

She received her beautician master’s degree and was a salon owner for more than 30 years. Upon retiring, they moved to Florida. He died August 3, 1997 in Sioux City.

She served on the Metuchen, N.J. YMCA board of directors, as YMCA state secretary and president of the YMCA Auxiliary. She was a member of the Women’s Business League, the St. Francis Alter Society, the Sodality and the PTA. She enjoyed gardening and oil painting.

Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Tornell of Sioux City, Barbara Nelson and her husband, Michael of New Hampshire and Susan L. Hutchins of Minneapolis, Minn., seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth and a brother, John.
