SIOUX CITY | Sidney Jongma, 83, of Sioux City, entered eternal rest Friday, Jan. 13, 2017.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in Hospers Cemetery, Hospers, Iowa, with military rites provided by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1933, in Orange City, Iowa, the son of Klaas and Marie (Goslinga) Jongma. He attended country school near Hospers.

Sidney and Noreen Reit were married on Sept. 9, 1955, in Hull. He served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He enjoyed being on the farm and was employed as a farmer and drove truck for many years.

His greatest love was his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who he loved to tease and joke around with. He took great pride in his garden, and was very particular about straight rows. He enjoyed tinkering in his shed, listening to polka music and watching the Minnesota Twins.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Noreen; children, Dwayne and Mary of Brunsville, Iowa, Dee and Bert Shoumaker of Lawton, Iowa, Darla and Jim Montgomery of Marshalltown, Iowa, Deanne Adams of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Denise and Don Monroe of Sioux City; grandchildren, Molly (Dan) Carpenter of Brunsville, Zachary Jongma of Hinton, Iowa, Justin Helget of Omaha, BJ (Sarah) Shoumaker of Sioux City, Rachel Shoumaker and Jonathan Shoumaker of Lawton, Krissy Viorla of Chesapeake, Va., Derek (Vanessa) Jongma of Marshalltown, Iowa, Troy Adams and Jessica (Wayne) Pollard of Sioux City, Megan (Rob) Bell of Salina, Kan., and Lindsey Monroe and Mallorie Monroe of Sioux City; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Carson, Hannah, Lydia, Derrius, Rylen, Ava, Axton, Izaiah, Sophia, Ayden and Khloe; brothers, Stan (Jodene) Jongma of Spencer, Iowa, and John (Alice) Jongma of Hawarden, Iowa; sisters, Anna (Norm) Schaap of Sioux Center, Iowa, Clarine (Delmar) Van Klompenburg of Maurice, Iowa, and Esther (Jim) Jones of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Carmen Jongma of Augusta, Ga.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Marvin and Marvin's wife, Myra; great-grandson, Maxwell Viorla; son-in-law, Tony Adams; and grandson-in-law, Todd Viorla.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
