SIOUX CITY | Helen E. Cook, 96, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at her residence.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Helen was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Sioux City, the daughter of Harvey and Dorothy (Banbery) Weaver.

Helen attended Morningside College, receiving her bachelor’s degree. She then enlisted in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945, serving during World War II. After her honorable discharge, she made her career teaching fourth grade at Riverview Elementary for over 20 years before retiring in 1981.

Helen married Paul Cook on Nov. 10, 1945, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2008. The couple built houses together with Paul doing the structure and Helen doing the decorating. She also enjoyed golfing and playing bridge.

Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and P.E.O. Chapter GZ.

Helen is survived by her children, Gene (Chris) Cook, Betsy Cook-Voss, and Steven J. Cook, all of Sioux City; grandchild, J.D. Cook; sister-in-law, Twila Weaver of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; sister, Jean Petersen, brother, Donald Weaver; and granddaughter, Susan Cook.

Memorial contributions may be given in Helen's memory to Hospice of Siouxland or First United Methodist Church.
