HORNICK, Iowa -- Mary "Dorie" Bakke, 62, of rural Hornick died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Mary Delores was born May 6, 1943, in Ponca, Neb., the daughter of Leo and Fern (Marsh) Beacom. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in Emerson, Neb.

She married Dale Bakke on Aug. 12, 1967, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple made their home in Sloan, Iowa, until 1975, when they moved to Hornick. She worked many years at Zenith in Sioux City. She later worked as a cook and bus driver for St. Joseph Catholic School in Salix. She had been a dialysis patient for the last eight years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as a lay person. She also was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Siouxland Shady Brady Saddle Club. She enjoyed coaching basketball at St. Joseph.

She is survived by her husband, Dale of Hornick; four daughters, Sherry Beacom of Sioux City, Barb (Dave) Esser of Canova, S.D., Kelly Jenkins of Hornick and Michelle Bakke of Sioux City; two sons, Shawn (Michon) Bakke of Carroll, Iowa, and Shane (Wendy) Bakke of Salem, S.D.; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Patsy (Stan) Utemark of Hubbard, Neb., and Lois Beacom of South Sioux City; two brothers, Donald (Marlene) Beacom of Grand Island, Neb., and Mick (Carol) Beacom of Hooper, Neb.; and a sister-in-law, Bette Beacom of Jackson, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debbie Beacom; a sister, Catherine (Dave) Connelly; and three brothers, Bob (Sally) Beacom, Martin (Joann) Beacom and Bill Beacom.
