Jacqueline Darlene (Smith) Tronson, 73, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at her residence.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jackie was born on Sept. 21, 1931, in Sioux City, the daughter of Forrest Gerald Smith and Sarah Lucille Day. She graduated from East High School.

She was married to Orville Tronson in 1951. Jackie worked as a nurse's aide for a number of years at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center.

She fought and won the battle to get girls basketball into the Sioux City Schools. She was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Democratic Party and was a city golf champion, setting records at both Floyd and Green Valley Golf Courses.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff and his wife, Kelly Tronson of Sioux City, and Steve and his wife, Jean Tronson of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Debbie and her husband, Randy Phelan of Larslan, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Smith of San Diego, Calif., and Robert Cowen of Sussex, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Lucille and Fred Switzer of Denver, Colo.; and a brother, Daniel Smith of Denver.
