Eileen M. McCumber, 78, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at Embassy Rehab and Care Center, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, following a courageous, six-month battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m and a vigil service at 7 p.m at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. McCumber was born July 26, 1926 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mayme (Schneider) Jansen. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Mason City. She married Merwin A. "Mac" McCumber on Oct. 20, 1956 in Mason City. Mac preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1990 in Sergeant Bluff.

Eileen moved with her family to Sioux City in 1963. She had been a bookkeeper with Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for 23 years.

She was an avid Sioux City Explorers fan. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for nearly 20 years, Woman's Organization of Church and Catholic Women's League.

Survivors include a daughter Yvonne McCumber of Lakewood, Colo.; a son Mark McCumber and his wife Kim of Sergeant Bluff; one sister Philomena Jansen of Mason City; two grandchildren Mitchel McCumber and Kayla McCumber, both of Sergeant Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters Eleanora Whipple, Virginia Newberry, Kathryn Grimm, Delores Jansen and Lorene Ketchum.
