SIOUX CITY | Wanetta Whitlock, 83, of Santee, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oyate Oyanke Community Center in Santee. Burial will be in Episcopal Cemetery in Santee. Visitation continues today until service time Saturday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. today, at the community center.

Wanetta Denney was born Jan. 25, 1933, to Ruby Hill and Henry S. Denney.

Wanetta married Donald James Whitlock Sr. June 20, 1950. They had 10 children.

Wanetta worked as a chef for many years, and was a hard worker.

She lived in Sioux City for many years before moving to Jefferson, S.D., Arizona and then Santee.

Wanetta's children were her No. 1 priority. She loved crafts, second-hand shopping, rummage sales, and being around people. She said what she thought, and had a quick wit. She had a heart as big as herself with a temper to match. She always gave her all.

Survivors include her children, Donald J. Jr., Timothy, Dennis, Theresa and Russ Whitlock, Lori Johnston and Jamey Whitlock; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, David, Richard and Patrick; and siblings, Harry, Louie "Smoky" and Henry Denney, Eva Mozak, Idella Swazey and Mabel Shwainhart.
