SIOUX CITY | Philip A. Brekke, 62, of Sioux City, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sioux City, with the Rev. Jeremiah Rice of Henning, Minn., officiating.

Phil was born on March 13, 1954, in Sioux City, to Chris Brekke and Johanna Brekke. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.

Phil had worked at Mercy Medical Center, MCI and Wal-Mart.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Phil had a great sense of humor and would bring smiles to all he met.

During his journey with cancer, he was always strong in his faith, knowing he would be going home to God.

Survivors include his two sisters, Joyce (Bernie) McBride of Smithland, Iowa, and Diane Probst (Rick Dobbs) of Sioux City; brother, Arlen Brekke of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends, Vicky Adolphson, Joy Pearson and Vicky Puente; and his special daughter by heart, Alani Grosvenor.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
