Dwight David Cook, 54, of Sioux City went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, following a 20-month battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cornerstone World Outreach, with the Rev. Donna Smith officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Dwight was born in Burbank, Calf., on Aug. 16, 1953, the son of James and Janice (Fream) Hewitt. He graduated from Cleveland High School in Reseda, Calif., in 1971. The following year, he joined the National Guard. He was trained as a cook in the National Guard.

He was united in marriage in 1976 to Debra Lynn Taylor. He worked in restaurants in Las Vegas, Nev., Taft, Calif., and he last worked for Botticelli Restaurant until January 2006.

He was well loved by those who knew him and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Debra of Sioux City; four sons, Michael Cook and his wife, Jennifer of Sioux City, Jason Cook and Clarinda, Iowa, and James and Daniel Cook, both of Nevada; his sisters and husbands, Cheryl Cook of California, Tammy Hewitt of Washington, Traci and Dave Wilson of Oregon, Sharon and Alan Becker of California, Geneva and Marc Merrill of California, and Mary Hanson of Texas; his "Dad," Bill Hewitt of Oregon; his "Mother," Mom Cook of California; three grandchildren, Alexandria, Tristan and Melody; and two brothers, Wayne Cook and his wife, Irene of California, and Billy Hewitt of Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Janice and James; and a sister, Donna.
