Ivis L. Backes, 103, of Agoura Hills, Calif., formerly of Oto, Iowa, and Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at Agoura Hills Senior Retreat, with her loving daughter, Anna M. Bennett, by her side.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gates Kingsley and Gates Praiswater Mortuary in Canoga Park, Calif.

Ivis was born in Oto, Iowa, on Oct. 22, 1904. She was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include her daughter, Anna M. Bennett; her son-in-law, Bill Bennett; a grandson and his wife, Jeff and Nancy Bennett; great-grandchildren, Jason William and his fiancee, Heather, Jenna Marie and Niki Dean; and a niece, nephew and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lyle Backes on Jan. 4, 1995.
