Roma D. Lewis, 101, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crofton, Neb. with the Rev. Bob Bryan officiating. Burial will be in Crofton Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Roma was born Oct. 19, 1906, in Fremont, Neb., to George P. and Hanna (Buer) Meier. She was the third of six children born to her parents. She moved with her family to Crofton, Neb. when she was a young girl. She graduated from Crofton High School in 1924. She attended Midland College in Fremont, Neb.

She was joined in marriage to Merwin Lewis on April 22, 1933, in Luverne, Minn. They made their home for many years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1968, they moved to Centerville, S.D., Merwin's hometown. Merwin passed away March 30, 1982. In 2001, she moved to Sioux City to be closer to family members.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. As a child, there was no Lutheran church in Crofton and she lived with an aunt in Wisner, Neb. for a period of time to receive her Christian education and confirmation. Her parents were active in the organization and founding of Trinity Lutheran Church in 1929. At the time of her death, she was a member of that congregation. As residents of Centerville, S.D., the couple attended Scandia Lutheran Church. She became a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Columbia, S.D. and later joined Ivy Chapter in Centerville. She was a member of Centerville's 20th Century Club, Centerville Garden Club and Centerville Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a niece, Jeanne Hinrichsen; a good friend, Larry Steinbrecher of Sioux City; two nephews, Steve Meier and Greg Meier of Seal Beach, Calif.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters, Thelma Schwartz, Marie Carmen and Ruth Millard; two brothers, Clancy Meier and Richardeane Meier; and three nephews, Junior Carmen, John Millard and Paul Millard.

Pallbearers will be Scott Millard, Julie Olson, Lisa Hastings and Dick Hinrichsen. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Meier, Greg Meier, Bonnie Carmen and John Hinrichsen.
