James A. "Jim" Vogel 1934 - 2017

SIOUX CITY | James A. "Jim" Vogel, 82, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sioux City.

Jim was born April 12, 1934, in Aberdeen, Wash., the son of Fred and Lillian (Lewis) Vogel. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.

After his honorable discharge, he married Mary Ellen Maron on May 30, 1959.

Jim worked at Sioux Muffler, then at Sioux Tools until retiring in 1996. After retirement, Jim made deliveries for Fisher Florist Shop, and later drove a transit bus for Sunrise Retirement.

Jim was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and was currently attending St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his children, Randy (Brandi Auen) Vogel of Sioux City, Sidney (Cindy) Vogel of Sioux City, Fred Gay of Springfield, Neb., Kelley (Albert) Schoen of Sioux City and Sandra (Don) Coffey of South Sioux City; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sandra Weber, Carol Cullen and Beverly Duncan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Mary, who died in August 2016; children, Cory Vogel and Tammy Vogel; and a great-grandson, Josiah Vogel.
