SALIX, Iowa | Jon M. Norton, 77, of Salix, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be noon Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jon was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Sioux City. He was the son of George and Fern (Zandstra) Norton. Jon grew up in Sioux City, and graduated from Central High School.

On July 29, 1961, Jon married Maureen Deignan in Luverne, Minn. Jon was the owner and operator of Jon Norton Trucking.

He enjoyed camping, restoring old cars, going to coffee with his buddies and spending time with his family and dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Maureen of Salix; two sons, Jim Norton and Mike Norton (Shelly), both of South Dakota; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Bertrand (Mike) of Iowa; two sisters, Jan Johnson of Wisconsin, and Marilyn Dermit of Iowa; and seven grandchildren, Chance Norton (Kai), Breanna Norton, Lauryn Norton, Austin Norton, Madison Norton, Alexa Norton and Jade Norton.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas; a brother, George; and two brothers-in-law, Bill and Jim.
