SIOUX CITY | Katharine Warkentin, 97, of Omaha, formerly of Sioux City, died suddenly Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, during recovery from a shoulder injury.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dundee Presbyterian Church in Omaha. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th St., Omaha.

Katharine was born in York, Neb., to Albert J. and Elizabeth Friesen Dalke, and was a graduate of Grant High School, Grant, Neb., and Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. She taught primary education in rural public schools for grades 1–12.

On Aug. 25, 1940, she married Henry Warkentin. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2010 at their home in Pacific Springs Village. She served faithfully in her role as wife of a Presbyterian minister in churches in Sioux City, Rock Island, Ill., and the Chicago area.

She is survived by one sister, Ruby M. Dalke Enns of Worth, Ill.; two brothers, Willard J. Dalke (Mary) of Reedley, Calif., and Irvin W. Dalke (Wanda) of Templeton, Calif.; daughter, Dr. Phyllis I. Warkentin (Dr. Peter F. Coccia) of Omaha; son, Thomas H. Warkentin (Valerie) of Chicago; grandchildren, Kathryn Coccia of Baltimore, Md., Jennifer Coccia of Omaha, and Brent and Blake Warkentin of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.

Katharine was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Herbert M. Dalke, Rachel W. Dalke, Bertha L. Dalke, Alma Dalke Benedict, and Aleida M. Dalke Zeitner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Katharine's honor to the charity of your choice.
