SIOUX CITY | Robert O. Williams, 92, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at a local hospital.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Per Robert's wishes, visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Robert was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Sioux City, the son of Robert L. and Mildred (Peterson) Williams. He graduated from East High School in 1942. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 and served on Guadalcanal and Bouganville.

He married Bonnie Sturgeon on Nov. 22, 1947, in Sioux City. Bonnie preceded him in death on Aug. 14, 1982.

Robert attended the National Business College in Sioux City, and graduated from the American Institute of Baking in Chicago. He worked for Continental Baking Company, Wonder Bread, for 38 years as a production worker, foreman, and superintendent in Sioux City and Omaha, and as a regional production supervisor for four states. As a production employee, he was president of the Bakery and Confectionary Workers Union.

Robert enjoyed golfing and in 1977, won the Akron Open Golf Championship. He particularly enjoyed golfing with his good and loyal friend, Dennis Krom.

He is survived by his son, Robert K. and wife, Patti Williams of Iowa City, Iowa; grandsons, John and wife, Jen Williams of O'Fallon, Mo., and Michael Williams of Iowa City, Iowa; a great-granddaughter, Annabelle Williams; a beloved best friend, caretaker, and honorary daughter, Molly Scherle of Sioux City; and many friends and extended family at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; and two sisters, Millecent and Beryl.

The family wishes to thank Sunrise Retirements Community for their compassionate care of Robert.

Memorial contributions may be given to Systems Unlimited of Iowa City, IA, an agency that serves physically and mentally disabled individuals.
