SIOUX CITY | Arne R. Sorensen, 93, of Sioux City, passed away Friday Oct. 28, 2016.

Celebration of life services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Funeral Chapel.

Arne was born near Neligh, Neb., on May 9, 1923, to Carl and Caroline (Jensen) Sorensen.

Arne exhibited early musical talent as a pianist. He continued studying, performing and teaching throughout his life. Arne studied with many notable musicians including Otto Voget, Maurice Duhamel, Rudolph Ganz and Leon Fletcher.

As a teacher, Arne touched the lives of numerous students in Nebraska and Iowa, many of whom went on to professional musical careers. During summers, Arne taught students of Beth Miller Harrod in Lincoln, Neb.

Arne's own performances included both solo and collaborative, including those at Witherspoon Concert Hall in Omaha. Highlights for Arne included time spent with his students as well as attending events at Rocky Ridge Music Center, Marlboro and Ravinia Festivals.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Tassemeyer.
