Dorothy M. Knowles, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, 3713 Green Ave., Sioux City, with Vance Harnack officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Dorothy M. Knowles was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of Henry Sheldon and Ethel (Harvey) Proctor. She was raised in the Marcus area, where she attended school. She attended business school in Sioux City. Throughout her life, she had resided in Kingsley, Iowa, Rapid City, S.D., and Sioux City. She worked in sales and management for the majority of her life.

She was a Jehovah's Witness and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Cindy Knowles of Eau Claire, Wis., and Charles and Lea Knowles of Sioux City; three daughters, Charlene Knowles and her companion, Robin Steinberg of Santa Cruz, Calif., Cathy and her husband, Donald Lynn of Springfield, Ill., and Patricia and her husband, Michael Sloan of Webster City, Iowa; a brother, Ted Proctor; a sister, LaVon Krekow of Le Mars, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph Paul; a brother, Wes Proctor; a granddaughter, Cassy Dawn Sloan; and her stepmother, Irene Hansen.
