SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa -- Grant Floyd McMeekin, 89, of Sergeant Bluff died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, with Rev. E. D. Pappadackis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. McMeekin was born February 22, 1913, and raised near Toronto, S.D., the son of Guy W. and Ada W. (Hauser) McMeekin. At age 13 he moved to near Pierre, S.D. In 1934, he moved to Sioux City. He married Emilie L. Fineran on November 25, 1942, in South Sioux City. Mr. McMeekin continued living in Sioux City until moving to Sergeant Bluff in 1974. His wife, Emilie, died on November 15, 1989.

Mr. McMeekin was a mechanic and welder and worked for IPS for 34 years until retiring in 1976. He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church of Sioux City.

Mr. McMeekin was a Ham Radio operator and enjoyed fishing and boating.

Survivors include a sister, Arvilla Hansen of Sioux City; a nephew, Bob Hansen of Burlington, Iowa; and two nieces, Deanna Bower of Sioux City and Ramona Cheuvront of Klamath Falls, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Ada McMeekin; his wife, Emilie; and a brother, Wilfred McMeekin.
