DANBURY, Iowa -- Loyle F. "Bud" Treiber, 84, of Danbury died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Carlsen-Frum Post 336 of Danbury. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Loyle Francis "Bud" Treiber was born Nov. 12, 1918, in rural Monona County, Iowa, the son of Adam and Elizabeth (Schimmer) Treiber. He grew up and was educated in the area.

On Sept. 2, 1938, he was united in marriage to Francine Elizabeth Fitzpatrick in Dakota City. She died Aug. 20, 1984.

He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army from July 20, 1944, to May 3, 1946, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He also received the Bronze Star from the Secretary of the United States Army for exemplary conduct in ground combat against the armed enemy during the Central Europe Campaign in the European Theatre of Operations while assigned as a private first class with the 319th Infantry Regiment.

His life work was in the construction business, first working for Lloyd Creswell. He then went into a partnership with Johnny Osborn, which he took over and formed into Treiber Construction. He was involved in many projects with the S.C.S., including the Missouri River Flood Control and the Little Sioux River Control. It was he who discovered the Turin Man while working on the Little Sioux River Control Project. He was also involved in the Floyd River Control Project, the construction of Interstate 29, the Decatur Bridge, and did dirt work on Highway 59 near Denison, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, as well as American Legion Carlsen-Frum Post 336 of Danbury. He found pleasure in the time he spent playing cards with his family and friends.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include two daughters and their husbands, Carol and Mike Mohrhauser of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Sheila and Larry Kennaley of Irving, Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jim and Jodi Peters of Danbury, Melissa and Mike Lantz of Odebolt, Iowa, Kristin and Jim Schwinkendorf of Arlington, Texas, Larry and Darcie Kennaley of Midlothian, Texas, and Teresa and Phillip Tetreault of Midlothian; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Phebe Treiber of Danbury, and Linea Treiber of Nevada; along with numerous other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Renee Kennaley; two brothers, Paul and Harold; and a sister, Ethel Newman.
