Esther Kathlyn Forker, 96, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Private family services will be held. Chaplain Glen Houts of Hospice of Siouxland will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Forker was born Dec. 29, 1906, in Monona County, near Turin, Iowa, the daughter of John E. and Edith (Hathaway) McNamara. She moved to Castana, Iowa, as a child, where she attended school.

She married Wyman P. Forker in 1924. They moved to Sioux City in 1927. The couple were in the bar business for many years as owners of Wyman's Worry and the Plaza Pub. Mr. Forker died Dec. 5, 1989, in Sioux City.

As the daughter of a minister, her faith was always very important to her. She enjoyed the Chicago Cubs and cooking for her family. She was known for giving out huggie money to her great-grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her family and was very proud of them. Grandma Esther was dearly loved and will be missed.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Ginny Forker of Sioux City; two grandsons and their wives, Wil and Jeannie Forker of Sioux City, and John and Cathie Forker of Brunswick, Maine; two granddaughters and their husbands, Darby and Chris Towne of Muncie, Ind., and Stephanie and Patrick Parry of Sioux City; 14 great-grandchildren; and her closest friend, Mildred Anderson.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Wilford M. "Bill" Forker who passed away Sept. 19, 1999; her parents; and a sister, Dorothy Sammons.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Fund.
