Fern J. Bartle, 85, of Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital. She has gone to join the love of her life, her husband, Clarence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Frank Gillett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Fern was born in Sioux City on Sept. 1, 1918, the daughter of Charles and Minnie M. (Peterson) Nyreen. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.

On April 18, 1936, she married Clarence H. Bartle in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1979, in Sioux City.

She worked for Kraft Foods in Sioux City and for many years at Palmer Candy Co. until her retirement in 1973.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Eagles Auxiliary in South Sioux City. She enjoyed playing bingo and she also worked bingo for many years. She loved to crochet and always enjoyed baking. She also enjoyed writing poetry.

She will be lovingly missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by three sons, Marlin and his wife, Sharon, Rodney and John, all of Sioux City; two daughters, Marlene and her husband, Harold Zuckerman of Houston, Texas, and Jackie Velasquez of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her dog, Tyler.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Bartle; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Brian Bartle, Troy Bartle, Shannon Bartle, Harold Zuckerman, Robert Ackerly and Richard Ackerly.
