Mrs. Annie C. Smith
28 Jan 1864 – 17 Nov 1943

Mrs. Annie C. Smith, daughter of James and Diana Ball, was born near Rock Island, Illinois, January 28, 1864 and passed away at her home in Hornick, November 17, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 19 days.

At the age of nine she traveled with her parents by covered wagon to Smithland and spent the winter of ’73.

In the spring the family moved to South Dakota and the following year returned to the Hornick neighborhood where, except for a few years in California, the rest of her life was spent.

On February 20, 1883, she was united in marriage with Fred H. Smith, and they established their home on the farm east of Hornick. To this union six children were born: Chester B. of Bronson, Myrtle M. of Alhambra, California, Vera M. of Daly City, California, Herman F and Blanche E. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Ward A. of Hornick all of whom survive.

Her husband died in April 1926. Mrs. Smith resided in Hornick since 1932. She was a faithful and active member of the Hornick Methodist Church for nearly 50 years.

Funeral services were held in the Hornick Methodist Church Saturday, Rev. W. F. Lane, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Smithland Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home of Hornick.
