Death Claims Early Settler of the County

An early settler of Woodbury County, Fred Burkhart, 73, years old, died at his home in Hornick Saturday night.

Mr. Burkhart came to the county in 1883 from Ohio. He was known among his friends as one of the most progressive farmers of the county.

He was born in Ohio in 1858 and he and Miss Ida Guithiel were married in 1883. They came to Woodbury County the following spring and settled on a farm eight miles northeast of Hornick. Mr. Burkhart retired 12 years ago and the family moved to Hornick.

Surviving Mr. Burkhart are: His widow, five sons, John, Louie and Solomon, of Hornick: Lawrence of Avoca, Minnesota and Paul of Yankton, S.D. and five daughters, Mrs. F.A. Vermilyea and Mrs. John Weber, both of Hornick, Mrs. Irving Morse, of Seattle, Mrs. Frank Moore of Anthon and Mrs. C.E. Holstrom of Mapleton. Four brothers and two sisters also survive.

The Becker Funeral parlor will be in charge of funeral arrangements.
