SIOUX CITY | Wallace "Wally" Dale Thornton Sr., 89, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016.

Services were held on May 27 at Prestige Assisted Living at Claremont in Lake Havasu City, where Wally resided. Arrangements were with Lake Havasu Mortuary. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City.

Wallace was born on Sept. 8, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Earl E. and Ilah L. (Bonham) Thornton. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Wallace and Delores Bennett married on Aug. 9, 1947, in Sioux City, where they raised their four children. Delores passed away in October 1984. Wallace married Ina Bloomfield in 1985 in Lake Havasu City, where they made their home.

Wallace was employed at Iowa Public Service until retirement.

He was active in Church of the Nazarene, where he was a lifetime member. He was a member of Morningside Masonic Lodge in Sioux City as a 32nd Degree Mason. He was active in Abu Bekr Shrine Temple-Tiryan Lodge in Sioux City (Shrine Chanters, and Hospital Moms and Dads), and the Shrine Motorcycle Brigade in Arizona. He was a member of Elks BPO for more than 25 years. He was an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union representative for Iowa Public Service. He served on the board of directors at the Lake Havasu City Senior Center.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, camping, square and round dancing, and especially playing his harmonica.

Survivors include his wife, Ina; his four children, Nancy A. Jackson (Joe Courtright) of Hinton, Iowa, Wallace D. (Marcia) Thornton Jr. of Lake Havasu City, LaVonne R. (Dennis) Menefee of Sioux City, and Russell L. (Sharon) Thornton of Lake Havasu City; his stepchildren, Robert J. (Margie) Bloomfield and Carol E. (Charlie) Noseworthy, all of London, Ontario, Canada, and Charlotte "Ann" (Rick) Altman of Cypress, Texas; 21 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Harrington of Columbus, Neb.; sister-in-law, Maxine Thornton of South Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores; his parents; brother, Daniel Thornton Jr.; great-granddaughter, Brittany Menefee; brother-in-law, Robert Harrington; and nephew, Lonnie Thornton.
